What customers say?

“ I stopped by here first thing Monday morning for breakfast. Because of the rain, I was the only customer. I ordered the 900 yen katsu curry. Even the regular size is jumbo. That's about 600-700g in Coco Ichibanya terms. I'd read the reviews beforehand, so I didn't go for the crazy large portion. The katsu was freshly fried and had a great texture, which was delicious all by itself. The curry was homemade, with a strong spiciness and a fragrant herb and spice aroma. It wasn't an especially outsider flavor, but I guess it might be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing. It kind of feels like "men's cooking." The katsu was definitely delicious, so I'd like to try the katsudon next time. I'm a middle-aged man who eats a lot, so I can easily eat this in under 10 minutes first thing in the morning and not get bored, but this isn't a place for anyone other than big eaters. It said children aren't allowed, but the staff were friendly, at least when I ate and left. ”

“ I stumbled upon this restaurant while searching for sightseeing in Hakodate on YouTube. My husband was interested in large-portion dishes, so we stopped by while sightseeing around Goryokaku. The restaurant was constantly filled with locals, giving us the impression that it caters to the locals. There were a few groups of people who seemed to have found the restaurant through some kind of information, like us, but it really did seem like a restaurant deeply rooted in the community. The restaurant itself had a comfortable, historic atmosphere, and the cooks and waiters were working efficiently, creating a truly pleasant combination that made it a wonderful restaurant. The portions were large, as expected. My husband ordered the stir-fried vegetable set meal, and after much deliberation, I decided on the fried rice. When I saw the size of the fried rice, I thought there was no way I could finish it, but the ingredients were simple—pork, onion, and egg—and the light seasoning made it easy to eat. As I continued to eat, I didn't feel full, and before I knew it, I'd finished it all. I was surprised. The popular dishes ordered by the people around me, such as the pork cutlet curry and ginger pork set meal, looked delicious and appealed to me. Thank you for the meal. ”

“ I've been dropping by here a few times a year for a long time when I feel like having a hearty meal. I've tried a variety of dishes, including omelet rice, curry, and chicken karaage set meals, but these days I mostly eat fried rice, katsudon, or shogayaki set meals. I absolutely love rice, so this is the perfect restaurant for someone like me. The photo shows my large portion of fried rice, which I've had for the first time in three years. When I saw it, I thought it was amazing. It looks about twice the size of a regular portion. It's a race against time, so I want to gobble it down, but it's so hot, it takes time. By the end, I was on the verge of throwing up and thinking I'd give up, but I somehow managed to finish it. I used to be able to do it with ease... While I'm thinking I might not be able to eat a large portion anymore, I find myself thinking I'll order the shogayaki with large rice next time. Actually, I've never tried the noodles, so I'm curious about the yakisoba, the only noodle dish they have. This is a restaurant I'll continue to visit. By the way, I've also attached a photo of the regular-sized katsudon, the only large portion I've never tried. Photo added November 2025 ”

“ This was my favorite local restaurant. I ordered fried rice for 750 yen, and it was piping hot, perfectly crispy, and delicious. (o^^o) The portion was huge, and I was left feeling full and happy. ”

“ This restaurant is famous for its large portions. Their katsu curry was also quite impressive. The curry was smooth and spicy, with the cutlet fried perfectly and fragrant, and I loved how almost over-fried it was. I couldn't finish my katsudon (pork cutlet bowl) before, but maybe katsu curry is a drink? I ate it all in one go! Thank you for the meal! ”

“ We went to Nakamichi Shokudo, one of Hakodate's three great restaurants! There's a parking lot next to the restaurant that can fit two cars if you're lucky, but it's parallel parking, so if there's only one car there, you'll have to give up. We went for takeout, but while we were waiting, customers kept coming in one after the other. We ordered omelet rice, fried rice, and a chicken karaage set meal here. The owner brought it to us while we waited in the car! We wish we had been able to eat inside if we had been able to park. The total weight of all three is quite heavy. The fried rice was seasoned just right. The rice was delicious with just the right firmness. The chicken karaage was slightly sweet with soy sauce and ginger, but not too strong, so it was just the right balance. The chicken was tender and easy to eat. It comes with simmered dried daikon radish and pickled vegetables, so the amount of rice is enormous, but we finished it all. Both the omelet rice and fried rice are pork-based. Next time I'd like to have the chicken chap or katsu curry. I visited again, and this time I ate it in the restaurant. I ordered the chicken chap and katsu curry inside the restaurant, and the spicy fried rice as a souvenir. The chap was delicious and I didn't have enough rice! The curry had a nice spicy flavor. The spicy fried rice was more savory than spicy. If you like spicy food, I think it's sweet. I visited again, and ordered the katsudon, chicken karaage set meal, and curry fried rice. The portions are really large, so if you're not sure, I recommend ordering less rice to start with. The curry fried rice was quite spicy. I also liked the seasoning of the katsudon. The chicken karaage was shredded and fried crispy, making it easy to eat, and the seasoning was neither too strong nor too light. ”
